Walkers are supported by equipment to allow people with inflexible legs and feet or even loss of walking ability to take care of themselves and go out for a walk like normal people.
For some elderly people with leg and foot difficulties, patients with balance dysfunction, leg and foot injuries, etc., walkers are particularly important. Walkers can effectively support their weight, maintain body balance, and ensure safety while rehabilitating.
If the left foot is injured and you need to use an elbow cane, which hand should I use to crutches?
Most people will choose to use the left hand, that is, the "ipsilateral upper limb of the affected lower limb" to use elbow crutches, the reason is often "which leg is not easy to use, you have to help support it"! This reason seems very reasonable, but ignores a more important problem, that is, when we humans walk, the direction of swing of the upper limb is the same as the direction of the leg of the opposite lower limb, simply put, when the left leg is stepped, the right arm swings forward, and when the right leg is taken, the left arm swings forward, so if the injured person uses elbow crutches with his left hand (ipsilateral upper limb), then he will only have two results when walking:
One is a "tentative" pace, but you can't really move forward.
The other is the "one turn" approach. A smooth or smooth gait, in addition to looking a little funny, more importantly, this progressive state is not stable, which will make the center of gravity above the torso too large a swing range, the center of gravity is unstable, and the gait is naturally difficult to stabilize, which is a risk of falling for people who need to walk with the help of walking aids.
The correct way is to use the right hand, because we should first try to follow the "natural progression", so that when we step out of the left leg (the affected lower limb), the right hand should also swing forward, and in the support period after stepping out of the leg, because the left leg cannot be effectively supported due to pain, then the right hand needs to help support the left leg with the help of elbow crutches.
